We all want a change every now and then. Everyday we wake up and we come home to look at the same style. Have we had the same style for many years and ever thought of changing it?

Many people will move their furniture around in a particular room to create some change. However there are many other affordable options that can make your house more like a home again. The three greatest changes are Wall Coverings, Floor Coverings, and Window Coverings. Out of these three, the most affordable is Window Coverings.

Many people don’t realize how much of a difference that a Window Covering, such as a blind or shade, can make to your decor. They will make many other changes, but leave out the one that is the most cost effective and easiest to achieve. You don’t have to pack all your furniture in a room for several days while your walls or floors are being replaced. Window coverings can be redone with almost little to no effort on your part.

So if you are ready for a new affordable change. Call a local Window Covering Company to come by and give you a free in-home consultation. They can assist you with the many products like 2” Faux Blinds, Plantation Shutters, Window Shades, Woven Woods, Draperies, Valances and many more…

So make the change… make it with Window Coverings!

Adding Home Value: Window Treatments

By Grace McNamaraHave you ever walked into a room in your home, discovered it was a bit warm, and drawn the blinds or shades or draperies to control that heat? Seems like a simple movement, but with energy prices and concerns about creating pollutants, this simple act is preferable to turning down the air conditioner to kick it on. This simple action could be an important clue for how you as a homeowner can gain a greater degree of control over your home s energy costs, your comfort and increase the value of your home at the same time!

Window Coverings or no Window Coverings

Did you know that if you have a window that has no window covering on it at all, and you live in California, Texas, Florida, or any other consistently warm state, you are sending money right out the window every day? When lowered or closed, window coverings like shades, blinds, shutters, window film and others keep the heat out and allow your home to retain the cool air produced by your hard-working air conditioner. Your home cooling equipment doesn t have to work so hard, and that SAVES YOU MONEY. Keeping your home s internal temperature constant cuts energy usage, and keeps you much more comfortable throughout the day.

Did you know that if you have a window that has no window covering on it at all, and you live in Minnesota, Illinois, Montana, or any other consistently cold state, you are also letting money leak from your windows as well. Why? Stand next to a window in the middle of the winter. Even the most energy efficient windows leak some cold into the room. Bare, cold windows can act like a heat sinc, pulling heat from the room toward those cold windows. What a waste of expensive energy.

But you sa, I don t like to have things at my windows … I have a great view!

No problem. Your view can stay fantastic, and you can continue to enjoy it by using products that disappear from site. For example, do you know about aftermarket window films? The array of window films out there today is astonishing, and you can make choices among them that won’t compromise your view, but will improve your comfort level and energy usage enormously.

Let there be white!

Filed under: window treatments — editor @ 10:44 am

A little creativity can yield a lot of color for that stark, white apartment.

Mirrors: Mirrors give the reflective illusion of more space, as well as creating visual interest and artistic elements on walls. You can use one, large dramatic mirror or group several small mirrors together for an expressive and interesting look. While many mirrors can be quite heavy, there are new wall brackets on the market that are great for mounting heavy objects with no damage to walls.

Room Screens: Folding room screens are an excellent way to divide a room and add a little extra color and focus.

Window Treatments: Use of color in window treatments will automatically inject some life into an all-white room.

Foliage: Well-placed plants in a room are another quick and easy was to spruce up a room.

Shelving: Shelving often can be used along a wall to add dimension and function to a room. Mounted shelving or freestanding book shelves work well.

Furniture: Arrange your furniture in such a way that you take advantage of the room’s light. The benefit of white rooms is that they create a lot of natural light and make a space look larger.

Great Window Treatment Ideas

Filed under: window treatments — editor @ 10:42 am

by the-creative-home.comIncorporating window treatment ideas can be a confusing task. There are a myriad of things to consider and mistakes can be costly. This is why so many people use professional decorators or designers to help them with their projects. I hope to take a lot of the confusion out of selecting window coverings and help you to avoid the pitfalls that can occur.

Even if you decide to hire a professional, knowing what goes into designing and creating window coverings as well as what options are available will help you to communicate effectively with your interior decorator. Effective communication will ensure that you are happy with the end result for years to come.

The first step in developing your window treatment ideas is to determine the roll your treatments will play.

Do your rooms get allot of natural light?

If so pick treatments that will control the light that enters the room. Consider layered treatments that include lined draperies. Shades are also a great way to control natural light in a room and can be incorporated into formal as well as informal settings.

Not enough light?

Consider curtains made of light weight or sheer fabrics that do not require lining. If a formal treatment is what you choose make sure your treatment covers a little of the window as possible.

Poorly Proportioned Windows?

You can disguise short windows by hanging your window treatments well above the top of the window – as much as 6 inches or more. This works particularly well with treatments that incorporate a valance. Windows too narrow ? Simply hang drapes so that the inside edge of the drapes just cover the trim at the edge of the window. Of course, this requires adequate wall space as the bulk of the draperies will hang in front of the wall.

Five Tips Towards Proper Window Treatment

Filed under: Uncategorized — editor @ 9:26 am

by Adam Peters

These paragraphs deal with the systematic way that one has to go about when meaning to involve in window treatment. It makes clear the difference between the various kinds of window treatments available. Usage, size other factors are also brought to light. The main test is in selecting the right treatment for the window. Amongst numerous options available, the choice to decide is not very easy. The following are five pointers towards selection of the right treatment for the window, in case you are planning on a major changeover or opting for a new window treatment.

1. The foremost thing that one needs to do is to know the style of the window. The architecture, technique employed should also be borne in mind. The contrast between the ambience and the architectural details of the window needs to be looked into. If this is not given due consideration, what ensues is a clash between the overall dcor and the look of the window that has undergone the treatment.

2. The usage and the adaptability of the room have to be assessed first. In case of embarking of the window treatment of a bathroom, then the moisture effect has to be noted. Whereas, in case of window treating in the dining room then you could probably go for a treatment which is more formal.

3. The fact to be considered is the length and breadth of the window or bamboo shades. In case the window is tall, then you would have to go for a swag or valence that varies from the rest of the design to break the length of the window. Long panels should generally be avoided. When the window is small, then you can place a rod just below the ceiling line or above the trim and further longer panels could be added to make it look longer.

What Should You Cover Your Windows With?

One way to add a special touch to a room and give you more privacy is by placing curtains as window coverings on your windows. Whichever type you choose, a window treatment of curtains does not only add color and texture to your room, but can also solve problems you may have with your windows.

There are actually many types of curtains to select from, and, one of the most popular types is the box pleated curtain. This kind of curtain tends to have that neat tailored look because they are pre-gathered into pleats at the top of the curtain. They are a little more expensive but they can give you a nice added touch to your windows because of their extra fullness.

Another common types of window treatments is the valance which is a short piece of fabric that decorates only the top fourth of the window. These come in a variety of patterns and colors and are usually used with blinds so as to still get some privacy by closing the window off.

Curtains may also be used to block out light completely for those who need to sleep during the day and would want their room to be dark. These are called blackout curtains and they do not allow any light to pass through the curtain itself because of their special liners. The only light that may pass through is around the edges and over the top of the curtain.

There are also curtains which are good energy saving tools, the thermal curtains. These curtains can keep the temperature more constant, whether you prefer cool or warm. They can save on energy costs since the cool or warm air is not lost through the window.
