Picking the Right Color for Custom Window Treatments

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:50 pm

The visual effects of color used in a window treatment will vary according to many factors:

1.  A brightly colored window treatment against a light background advances and fills the space. The same treatment against a dark background will not look as large or bright.

2. To draw attention to a window treatment, use a bright color against a lighter value of its complement. To minimize the treatment, surround it with colors of the same value.

3. Medium-value prints against a white background are easy to see at a distance; in neutrals, the same pattern is less eye-catching.

4. The surface of a fabric affects its color intensity. A slick, shiny fabric such as satin or chintz will look more intensely red than the identical red on homespun linen.

5. Subtle color contrasts make a room feel formal, calm, feminine. Bold color contrasts make a room feel informal, cozy, masculine.

6. Color affects the appearance of lines. Horizontal lines in any color widen a window treatment, vertical colored lines against a contrasting ground add height.

7. Warm colors visually advance, cool colors recede.

8. Balance colors throughout the room. One hue should cover as much as two-thirds of an area, with a second color covering nearly a third. Repeating colors around a room or using a progression of values of one color – light green for walls, darker greens for draperies, furniture, and carpet- creates visual rhythm.

Picking the Right Color for Custom Window Treatments

The most important single element in decorating a room, including its windows, is the effective use of color. When selecting colors for window fashions, keep in mind:

1. The unchanged elements in the room, as dictated by budget, aesthetics and structural limitations.

2. The size of the room

3. The amount of natural light.

4. The room’s function.

5. The decorating style desired.

The visual effects of color used in a window treatment will vary according to many factors.

New Transitional Window Treatments

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:53 pm

What would you call a custom window covering when it’s not a shade and it’s not a sheer; yet it raises  and lowers, operates with a beaded chain and offers a full range of light control from complete room darkening to open view? What would you call it if, in fact, it offers an almost endless variety of light control and filtering options and is available in a range of trend setting colors in a contemporary styling that’s fresh and suitable for any application?

You’d have to call it transitional. And that’s exactly what Lafayette Interior Fashions calls is newest window fashion category: Allure Transitional Shades.

Allure Transitional Shades can do so much —offering the privacy of a window shade, the softened view of a sheer in a range of opacity levels and the option of raising and lowering the privacy and light control at every level. Its allure is created with fabric alternating between sheer and denser horizontal segments. As the fabric moves two layers bypass on the window creating a variety of light control options. It almost has to be seen to be fully appreciated. “Difficult to define….impossible to resist,” the company states.

Designer Screen Shades – Key Points to Remember

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:56 pm

Designer Screen Shades key points to remember:

* Select the degree of openness preferred for letting in more light, or keeping in out for more privacy.

* The percentages on the front of the fabric swatches indicate the level of openness, ranging from 3% – 15%. The higher the number, the more light that enters thought the fabric, which provides more view-through and less privacy.

* Darker screen fabrics allow a clearer view from the inside out, while lighter screen fabrics create a slightly veiled view.

* Enjoy a highly customized appearance with the Choices program, which allows customers to specify coordinating or contrasting fabrics for their shades.

* Motorization options are available for shades.
