How to Measure for Draperies

Begin at the top; position your curtain rod. To measure for curtain length, decide where you want your curtain to start-at window height, above or below and where it will fall-valance length, window sill, window apron, floor, longer than floor….and then measure from the top of the rod down. Scarves should be longer than the width of the window plus twice the length you want the scarf to swag. Add length if you are going to wrap the scarf around the rod or pole. If you are using clips rings, measure from the bottom of the hooks. For drapery panel width, measure the length of the curtain rod and multiply it by 1 -1/2 to 2 times.

Chicago Window Treatment Trends

Windows are the epitome of the pairing of function and beauty. They are the transition between the outdoors and indoors, ushering light and air inside. They are a means of extending our views beyond the parameters of our walls. To spin a well-known phrase, they are our eyes to the world outside, mirrors of the soul within.

Now, more than ever, well-dressed windows are a focal point, even to the extent that they are making a central style statement. When furnishing our homes today, we recognize the impact that our windows and their views make, thoughtfully framing them as we would frame a picture. We have grown weary of hard and stark treatments, so we are moving away from using blinds and shades alone, and are using draperies and curtains more extensively to soften the window scape.

Today, window treatment approaches are as varied as are home furnishing styles, ranging from full layered treatments to simple valance or panel treatments, from light and sheer to weightly and opulent. Lifestyles and home furnishing tastes tend to determine window treatment choices, and in some cases, havge lead to the creation of new window treatment trends.

What is a Silhouette Window Shading?

One part blind, one part drapery, two parts amazing. No other window covering can hold a support cord to its versatility. It’s made of soft, sheer fabric front and back facings, bonded to translucent fabric vanes to let in as much or as little light as you want. When completely open, the light Silhouette lets in is brilliant, but not harsh. When closed, you have complete privacy. And when raised, the shading is completely concealed inside the headrail for an unobstructed view. You can even order it with our unique PowerRise feature. Oh, and don’t be fooled by the delicate appearance of Silhouette. It’s durable enough to withstand years of normal use and the occasional rambunctious four-year-old.

Ripplefold Drapery System

Soft, ripple-like folds flows smoothly from one end of the track to the other. The effect is gently tailored-suitable for either commercial or residential installations. Master carriers that but together, and carries that swivel eliminate “flat” drapery areas.

Folds are identically beautiful from inside the room or outside the building-an architectural advantage. Headings, suspended under the track, cannot tip or sag. They are always perfectly positioned and spaced.

The Advantages are minimum track exposure low maintenance, and easy economical fabrication. The desire style of track system is mounted on wall, ceiling or in recess. Using this fabrication guide for specifications, tape is stitched to flat, hemmed panels of fabric. Panels snap to carriers, creating a graceful, uniform flow of ripple-like folds.

Ripple-like folds stack back to very end of track-actually take less space than conventionally pleated draperies. More glass is exposed, more light can come in.

Roman, Austrian and Balloon Shades

Roman, Austrian and balloon shades. Roman shades draw up into neat horizontal folds, Austrian shades into scalloped folds, and balloon shades into billows. All have rings on the back through which cords are strung. With the desired height. With others, you wind the cord around a cleat attached to the wall. However, motorizedroman shades are always first choice from consumers. Any shade can be motorized.

Sturdy, tightly woven fabrics are generally best for Roman  and balloon shades. Lightweight, airy fabrics are suitable for Austrian shades. If the fabric is patterned, gather up the fabric to see how it will look when the shade is raised.

Roman shades are also available in other materials, including woven wood, solar control screening and handwoven natural fibers, reeds, and grasses.
