Upholstered wall panels serve a variety of purposes in the home and can add a touch of opulence to any interior space. Historically, upholstered walls came into fashion as practical way to add warmth and insulation to larger homes. They became a symbol of wealth because of the extravagant embossed and gilded leathers, brocades and tapestries used to add color and pattern. In fact, wallpaper originated out of an attempt to emulate the effects of fabric wall treatments without the high cost.
Today, with fabric available at all price points, upholstered walls are making a comeback. Fabric paneling can be used to cover a damaged or uneven wall and provide soundproofing and insulation for more intimate spaces. Decorative fabrics make panels a focal point and can take place of artwork in your home. They can also be easily changed out to update the look and fee of the room. So, why not explore the idea of using upholstered wall panels in your home?

Begin at the top; position your curtain rod. To measure for curtain length, decide where you want your curtain to start-at window height, above or below and where it will fall-valance length, window sill, window apron, floor, longer than floor….and then measure from the top of the rod down. Scarves should be longer than the width of the window plus twice the length you want the scarf to swag. Add length if you are going to wrap the scarf around the rod or pole. If you are using clips rings, measure from the bottom of the hooks. For drapery panel width, measure the length of the curtain rod and multiply it by 1 -1/2 to 2 times.

Windows are the epitome of the pairing of function and beauty. They are the transition between the outdoors and indoors, ushering light and air inside. They are a means of extending our views beyond the parameters of our walls. To spin a well-known phrase, they are our eyes to the world outside, mirrors of the soul within.
Now, more than ever, well-dressed windows are a focal point, even to the extent that they are making a central style statement. When furnishing our homes today, we recognize the impact that our windows and their views make, thoughtfully framing them as we would frame a picture. We have grown weary of hard and stark treatments, so we are moving away from using blinds and shades alone, and are using draperies and curtains more extensively to soften the window scape.
Today, window treatment approaches are as varied as are home furnishing styles, ranging from full layered treatments to simple valance or panel treatments, from light and sheer to weightly and opulent. Lifestyles and home furnishing tastes tend to determine window treatment choices, and in some cases, havge lead to the creation of new window treatment trends.

One part blind, one part drapery, two parts amazing. No other window covering can hold a support cord to its versatility. It’s made of soft, sheer fabric front and back facings, bonded to translucent fabric vanes to let in as much or as little light as you want. When completely open, the light Silhouette lets in is brilliant, but not harsh. When closed, you have complete privacy. And when raised, the shading is completely concealed inside the headrail for an unobstructed view. You can even order it with our unique PowerRise feature. Oh, and don’t be fooled by the delicate appearance of Silhouette. It’s durable enough to withstand years of normal use and the occasional rambunctious four-year-old.
